Three successes to report: Rick Mirer, Ted Drury, & Ron Gant.
Rick Mirer played college football at Notre Dame and was selected second overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 1993 NFL Draft. In his first season, Mirer set the rookie records for passing yards, attempts, and completions. Unable to duplicate his success, however, Mirer was traded after four seasons to the Chicago Bears. He spent the remainder of his career with the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, and Detroit Lions, mostly as a backup.
Ted Drury played nine seasons in the National Hockey League for the Calgary Flames, Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets.played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Calgary Flames, Hartford Whalers, Ottawa Senators, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, New York Islanders and Columbus Blue Jackets. In 414 career games he scored 41 goals with 52 assists for 93 points. He is the older brother of former NHL star, Chris Drury.
Ron Gant was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the fourth round of the 1983 MLB draft (100th overall), and joined the Braves in 1987 as a September call-up. He collected 22 hits in 83 at bats, including two home runs. During the 1988 season, the rookie Gant was an everyday player for the struggling Braves. In 1990, he batted .303 with 32 home runs and 84 RBI, winning the National League Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News. Gant stole thirty-three bases in 1990, qualifying for the 30–30 club and duplicated the feet in 1991.
